Throwback Ad Thursday: G Gundam DVD Box Set

By November 5th, 2002 the future had arrived. G Gundam was the first Gundam series to be distributed in North America that didn't receive a VHS release. The ad here promotes the first three DVD volumes, sold together in a fancy looking boxset. This Bandai release included the first 15 episodes of the 49 episode series.
Aside from dual dialogue tracks (Japanese and English), the only special features here were some Bandai-related trailers and an interview with the show's director.

The nostagia is pretty heavy here. There's the "As Seen On Cartoon Network Toonami" text which brings back some great memories of those weekday afternoons catching the Toonami run when it was still in its glory. On a side note, it was neat when Bandai had their "Gundam Official" website, complete with all the various mobile suit stats and images of the Gundam pilots from different shows. Anyone else remember, on the homepage of that site, the RX-78-2 Gundam that floated around? You could aim a targeting reticle at it, in an attempt try to shoot it down (though every shot would miss). Ah, the days of cheesy interactive site gimmicks...RIP GundamOfficial.com

It's pretty funny that the ad lists Gamestop as one of the 'fine' retailers carrying the DVDs. Flash forward to 2016, and I can't even remember the last time I spotted a DVD in Gamestop. How the years have gone by...
